F: Wann kann man Polarlichter sehen?

  • A: Wenn es möglichst keine Wolken am Himmel hat.
  • A: Wenn es möglichst dunkel ist.
  • A: Selbst wenn die ersten beiden Bedingungen erfüllt sind, kann es sein, dass man trotzdem keine oder kaum Polarlichter sieht, weil man nicht in der Nähe des „Polarlichtrings“ ist. Zu sehen unten im Bild 15. Dieser Ring „wabert“ in einem Bereich, so dass z. B. Spitzbergen unter ihm liegt, aber Tromsø nicht und umgekehrt.
  • A: Ebenso wichtig ist aber auch, wie stark ist derzeit die Sonnenaktivität überhaupt. Ist man in einem Minimum, dann ist alleine die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass man überhaupt was sehen könnte, wenn denn die ersten beiden Bedingungen erfüllt sind, schon deutlich geringer. Ende 2019 ist die Talsohle immer noch nicht erreicht. Der letzte Peak war ungefähr Anfang 2014. Bis zu einem neuen Maximum werden wir also noch einige Jahre warten müssen (Stand Ende 2019).
