First names for IA Conference Announced
We are beyond delighted to share with you the first confirmed speakers for the IA Conference, taking place at The IA Center during Iceland Airwaves this November.
The IA Conference will host a dynamic array of panels, networking, keynotes and more, a perfect backdrop to Iceland Airwaves music festival and a hot ticket for anyone curious about topics such as AI, innovation, inclusivity, creativity, and of course all things music.
Joining the speaker lineup today are people by the likes of the actual First Lady of Iceland and Keychange ambassador Eliza Reid, Of Monsters and Men and MUNA manager Heather Kolker, man of the year Haraldur Thorleifsson, Iceland’s only music supervisor Inga Magnes Weisshappel, and Artist & Label Development Lead at YouTube/Google Nur Ozdamar
Representing the live music industry that we all know and love is Eurosonic booker extraordinaire Oskar Strajn, CAA rockstar agent to Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and Ariana Grande Marlene Tsuchii, and ATC Live booking agent to some of our favorite acts Sarah Joy.
Now, let’s talk about the conference’s quirks. This isn’t your ordinary music conference with stuffy lecture rooms and bored interns. The IA Conference is taking on a new ethos, taking place in the IA Center, located at Hafnarþorpið like last year. The IA Center will be even bigger and better in 2023 hosting a brand new official venue, the IA Conference, accreditation, special events and much more.
There will be plenty of networking at the IA Conference, happy hours, ranting, raving, and general pleasantness for all delegates.
The price will go up this Friday, November 2nd. A ticket to the IA conference includes a full 3 day festival pass, access to the conference, invitations to invite-only networking events and mixers PLUS all the benefits of Airwaves Plus including priority access to venues.

First 5 panel topics + more speakers added | IA Conference
FIRST WAVE OF PANEL TOPICS ANNOUCNED
PLUS MORE SPEAKERS ADDED
With no shortage of exciting topics to discuss, we have managed to narrow things down. We are very nerdily excited to announce the first five panel topics for the IA Conference, taking place on Friday, November 3rd, in Reykjavík.
After a few rocky years in the music industry, we have taken the executive decision to look on the bright side. And the bright side has a great sense of humor, as the most difficult situations can actually lead to great future success. Hi-larious. Our first panel topic announced today is “Turn it around - how heartbreaking failure can inspire life-changing success”.
The second panel is called “The soundtrack to your life” where we'll discuss the role of music in our everyday lives and how that has changed with the ongoing digital transformation and evolution.
Talking about evolution, we’re going to discuss the thing no one dares discuss... well, not really. We’re hopping on the bandwagon here with our third panel, “The ultimate AI panel” where we’ll discuss what AI means for creators, artists, and everyone around them.
Digging in deep, we’re going to explore how to “Leverage your data, or the robots will do it for you” on our fourth panel and how we can unlock the potential of technology, data, and innovative thinking.
And finally, to end on a lighthearted note, we’ll discuss the Icelandic mentality and approach to creativity, and we’ll answer the question, “Are Icelanders the creative powerhouse fairytale creatures of your dreams, or the stuff of nightmares?” SPOOKY.
Joining our already stellar lineup of speakers, we will hear from Iceland’s Irish adoptee Colm O'Herlihy, all the way from ‘Stralia Katie Rynne, fellow nerd from MIT Jose Ramos, the man we love the most William Larnach-Jones, and our very own Kim Wagenaar.
Read more about the panels and the speakers, and secure your spot at the IA Conference; we can’t wait to see you!

OF MONSTERS AND MEN EXCLUSIVE PARTNER EVENT
FOR WRISTBAND HOLDERS ONLY
Sure our line-up is complete, but what we didn’t tell you is that we have a wide array of astonishing partner events that have yet to be unveiled. It wasn’t easy keeping this a secret so we’re beyond excited to get this out! Are you ready?
Iceland’s favorite indie rock band Of Monsters and Men is hosting a screening of their documentary ‘TÍU’, which made the official selection at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and at RIFF. But the screening is just the beginning – brace yourself for an intimate performance that will captivate your soul, followed by an engaging Q&A session where you can ask them anything your heart desires. How’s that for a cinema experience?
This is intimate music in an expansive setting, and a lovely way to capture the artistry and humanity of this band. - The Wrap
Their documentary commemorates the band’s 10th anniversary and the release of their very first album “My Head Is An Animal”. Helming this artistic endeavor is none other than the visionary director Dean DeBlois, renowned for his work on iconic films such as the "How To Train Your Dragon” trilogy, "Mulan," and Sigur Rós' awe-inspiring documentary "Heima." As DeBlois shadows the band across the enchanting landscapes of Iceland, he captures their most intimate and raw performances while unraveling stories untold.
The event will take place on November 2nd, 17:00 at Bío Paradís and is for wristband holders only (more information on how to attend will follow soon). And with ‘event’ we mean a journey that will resonate with you long after the curtains close, so get your wristband now.

THURSDAY SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED!
SPEAKERS FROM NETFLIX, DICE, AND MANY MORE
Prepare to witness an eruption of knowledge and inspiration as we—together with Iceland Music, Reykjavík Music City, and Business Iceland—unveil our third groundbreaking conference announcement! Just like our volcano’s molten lava is carving its way to create new earth, we're forging an extraordinary landscape for a conference that will set the industry ablaze!
We’re starting off with a panel called ‘The Outsiders: Attracting global audiences to the edge of the earth’. Our dynamic nation that soared to global acclaim through the magic of music, now stands poised to embrace its identity as a cultural powerhouse. As we set our sights on the world stage, we confront a thrilling challenge: how do we beckon the masses to our enchanting yet concealed island?
Calling all skeptics and inquisitive minds! The third panel ‘Where’s My Money: Why Invest in Music?’ might intrigue you. Let’s unravel the mystery behind this audacious move - is it driven by altruism or a stroke of genius investment strategy? We’re dying to find out for ourselves.
And then, the unavoidable topic responsible for a global blame game, Covid! During ‘The Big Talk: Does the Live Industry Need to Stop Blaming Covid’ we dive into the heart of the matter, daring to question just how fleeting this setback truly is. Unfiltered, hopefully!
Have you heard of 'Iceland Music Film Phenomenon'? We’re not really sure how it happened, but it feels like almost every Icelandic Composer has been establishing a harmonious alliance with the cinematic realm. Is this extraordinary trend a unique hallmark of Iceland? Or is this part of a bigger, perhaps global, phenomenon?
To end this already wonderfully interesting day, explore the epic clash between music and its non-musical counterpart in ‘Attention Wars: Is the non-music part of music eclipsing - the music?’. Unravelling the mystique collaboration between the brilliant minds on stage and behind the scenes who, together, conjure the magic that enhances every shining artist’s journey. Let’s meet some of them!
How amazing is this? And we’re not even done yet! So while we bask in the glory of possessing insider knowledge, why not seize the opportunity to unravel the full brilliance of our freshly announced panels and esteemed speakers? The greatest the industry has to offer, if you ask us. From Sarah McCullen at Netflix, to Iceland’s very own Minister of Culture and Business Affairs, Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, and many many more. Hit that button below to immerse yourself in all the awesome. Let’s go!

BRÍET, HAUSCHKA AND KIRA KIRA
CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP, 3 MORE ARTISTS ADDED
Local legend Bríet, Academy Award and British Academy Film Award winner Hauschka, and experimental ambient musician Kira Kira have now joined the 2023 lineup.
Bríet is one of Iceland's local pop legends and started out performing at our off venue concerts when she was 15. She's praised for her lyrical talent, and 8 songs from her album made it to Spotify's Top Ten list for Iceland. We can't wait to welcome her back to our official stage.
Hauschka is best known for his piano compositions. He won an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award for his work on 'All Quiet on the Western Front'. His catalog now includes almost 50 film and TV scores. Hauschka will play an intimate show in Gamla Bíó during Iceland Airwaves.
Kira Kira founded music collective/label Kitchen Motors alongside composer Johann Johannsson and guitarist Hilmar Jensson in 1999, and spearheaded a handful of Icelandic artists including múm, Skuli Sverrisson and Hildur Gudnadottir.
TRÚNÓ WITH SIGUR RÓS AT IA CONFERENCE
WITH GEORG HOLM, DEAN O'CONNOR AND BERGUR EBBI
„Trúnó” is the term Icelanders use when taking someone aside and asking them the questions you’ve had buzzing through our mind. Usually the spark of a trúnó is a few beers and an informal setting, so what better time than on a festival Friday afternoon to drag these two onto a stage and ask them about the band that has shaped Icelandic music as we know it today?
Bergur Ebbi, Icelandic speaker, comedian and a writer of books, poetry, stage plays, television shows and more will moderate the talk which takes place as the last cherry-on-the-cake event of our already stellar conference lineup.
